One more Conservancy posting and then I'm done for the day. On April 3rd the Conservancy is putting on a special one-day event celebrating the resurgance of Spring Street in Downtown. What was once the Wall Street of the West is now an emerging, vibrant residential and commercial area with hip new loft conversions, art galleries and nightclubs. Some of the features on this tour are:
- an unveiling of the Douglas Building and Mercantile Arcade Lofts
- a rare look at the long shuttered El Dorado Hotel (soon to be converted into for sale lofts)
- the original Pacific Stock Exchange, now a nightclub
- the Los Angeles Times building with lobby murals by Hugo Balin (my favorite Art Deco muralist)
I will be attending this event as a patron. If you're interested in Spring on Spring then check out the link and order form that has all the pertinent details. Decide if you're going soon as these events tend to sell out quickly.
