I love LA. No really. I love LA. Strolling down Sunset Boulevard with Eric and Phil after a very nice dinner at Michelia's, ice cream at Mashti Malone's and drinks at Boardner's, I was overcome with happiness at the fact that we in Los Angeles have a plethora of activities available to us on any given night. Or maybe I was just a little tipsy from the wonderful Apple Martini's that Tammi poured for us. I'd like to think it was a combination of good food, good friends and one damn good city.

finger painting

This coming Saturday from 9:30am - 1pm I will be at Children's Hospital assisting in the painting of a giant mural. Once a month the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce brings volunteers into the hospital to participate in art projects with the young patients and this is somewhat associated with that coordinated effort. Seeing as how I'm not doing a tour this week I figured this would be a nice way to spend Saturday morning. Who needs sleeping in when this is so much more rewarding in the long run.

meet and greet

Last night I stopped by the Golden Gopher for the blogging.la meet and greet. I stayed just long enough to have a quickie with Celia (conversation that is) and meet Mr. blogdowntown himself, Eric Richardson. He looked just like his picture so I was easily able to spot him in the lightly crowded room. I also met [ze]dh (Daniel), and his female companion, non-blogger, Crystal.

Afterwards I took my pool cue and dancing shoes to Sugarfoot Stomp where I proceeded to play more pool than drink and drink more than dance. Although the few dances I had were splendid, with Jason from LA and Jason from Detroit standing out as the most memorable. However the best part of the night was kicking Reuben's scrawny little ass in pool on our final game. I slept well after that.

Good People, Bad Dancers, Pretty Girls

The old card catalogue room in the Doheny Library on the campus of USC still has some interesting category headings left in the little slots. Those three titles caught my eye...among others...however I was quickly running out of memory in my camera so my creatives juices were quelled a bit.

I'm thinking the tag line for my blog should actually read "shannon's wannabe curious adventures in and around L.A."

I've been taken off the USC tour tomorrow due to lack of need and the fact that other docents are itching to give the tour. So instead I will go as moral support and to "cement" the info in my pretty little head. The more I heard it, speak it and see it the better the tour I will give in the future.

Back to that original statement. For the past few summers I've been wanting to check out the Summer Pro League down in the LBC. It's essentially a showcase whereby NBA teams can get a look at their new prospects and established veterans can keep working on their game. The Lakers, Memphis, Toronto, Miami, Dallas and Carolina are among the pro teams featured this year. Sadly, according to the schedule, the Lakers games conflict with other things happening in my busy life so this year's a bust for me again. Oh well. There's always next year.

my what pretty blossoms you have

As I was driving home from Downtown last weekend I happened to take a route that went past Echo Park Lake and I noticed the Lotuses, Loti, pretty Lotus blossoms. I thought to myself, "Lotus Festival must be happening soon." Low and behold I was right! It's this weekend. I've never been and chances are that I won't make it this year as they predict over 100,000 visitors. Split that in half over a two day period and you still have an amount of people far too big for me to want to be around. Then again I have no plans for Sunday. We shall see. Maybe if I take a Valium...or bring a friend.

i need my fix man

I did my best junkie impersonation last night. A needle in both arms. No, I'm not a needle fiend drug addict. I did an Apheresis donation with The American Red Cross. Seeing as how I'm strapped down for 2 hours (don't go there) I get to watch a movie of my choice. Actually there's not much choice in their library however I was able to unearth a recent movie, Hitch. Just what the doctor ordered. Mindless comedy. Trust me, you don't want to be all emotional in the chair with needles and heavy machinery involved.

Drunks with Explosives

Did everyone have a wonderful Colonial Theft Day? Hope so. I went to a BBQ and took pictures. Odd I know. The theatre crowd for those of you wondering. After everyone left to go watch fireworks I stayed behind at my friend's place and cleaned all the mess up. I figured it was the least I could do since he opened his home to everyone.

Earlier in the weekend, on Saturday, I did a Historic Core Tour and Jim took some wonderful pictures of the highlights of the tour. Maybe now people will be inspired to actually go on it. Visual eye candy...ocular stimulation...words aren't enough these days...people need to see in order to feel. Blah, Blah, Blah. I must say the tour was very fun with a great group of tour goers. It was the first time I've been hugged by a complete stranger after my tour. It was also the first time I've encountered the LAPD with major firearms on the streets of Downtown. Jim, where was your camera then???

Spent all day on Sunday in a dark theatre prepping for my next show, Whip It, which starts on Thursday. The guys will definitely want to come see this one.
