Los Muertos has extended!!! Due to overwhelming reviews by both the L.A. Times and Backstage West we have added 2 more weekends. It will officially close on Saturday December 17th. Hope to see you there!

take another ride on the wild side

If you've been reading this blog long enough then you may remember back to earlier this year when I posted numerous times about a show I was working on called Hellcab, it extended several times and ended up being a 10 week run. Well it's back again as it's a Holiday specific (and good) show however this time it will be a true labor of love with the intermingling of 2 theatre companies: The SpyAnts and the Elephant Theatre (who apparently need to update their website). It will be double cast with a rotating mix of actors from each company every night but opening night ALL actors will be onstage. Madness!!!

shame him into submission

The Big Nose Bandit is on the loose robbing banks all over the Southland. Do you think if someone had bad breath they'd call them the Bad Breath Bandit?? Or a big butt they'd be the Big Butt Bandit?? Maybe this act of civil disobedience stems from something in his past...like other kids razzing him on the playground in elementary school about his big schnoz . Personally I don't think it looks that big...depending on the angle at which it is viewed.

somewhat settled

Got the office back up and running on Monday morning. The phone lines are still messed up and SBC is a little bit on my shit list right now. Although we do have our own Field Service Technician and he's on the case so hopefully by 2006 we will be fully functioning with all phone lines working. The DSL installation was a breeze and we never had any down time - except for when we were actually transporting the computers. The dreaded possibility of me "not being connected" never was a concern. Sheer brilliance on my part.

Soon it will all be in place and if all goes well, I won't be around no mo'...

Advice sought on Volvo's. I've been a Datsun, Honda, Saturn person for my entire driving history and would love feedback of any kind on Volvo.

welcome to winter

"Auntie Em! It's a twister!" Watch out for falling palm fronds or whatever they're called. The winds are vicious tonight. Finally it feels like fall/winter. I don't mind the briskness of it all but the gail force winds could die down a bit.

Speaking of winter, people sure don't waste anytime getting the holiday lights strung and hung do they? On my way home from the theatre tonight I spotted no less than 10 residences decked to the hilt with lights aplenty and on my Historic Core tour this morning Christmas trees were already up and decorated in a few buildings.

boxing and bleeding

I may be a bit incommunicado until next Monday. Moving the office officially tomorrow and I'm not banking on having all the computers up and fully functioning anytime soon. On Monday morning the "computer guy" comes to network the system. If I can figure out how to just plug my computer into the appropriate box then I may be connected to the internet but lets not look for any miracles.

All day I've been boxing stuff up. And I just got done doing my best junkie impersonation, apheresis. I potentially saved a life and for that I give Thanks.

auto update

Actually there's not much to update but so many people commented that I thought an update is called for.

Last weekend I completely procrastinated. OK< maybe kinda procrastinated. I was asked to do a special private Historic Core tour at the last minute on Saturday morning. Then I found out that fellow docent and researcher extraordinire Eric Lynxwiler was docenting as well that same morning so we had lunch afterwards. Then I drove to a place to go test drive and look at a '96 Volvo but they were closed on Saturday! Honest. So I went home and passed out for an hour before going to the theatre. On Sunday I spent the better part of the morning watching football then napped in the afternoon before making my way to the theatre.

This weekend is a tour on Friday and Saturday so maybe I'll be able to get hopping on that car shopping on Sunday or something.

By the way, thanks Pauly D, I named my current car Sammy. It's still running the same, I hope it'll last until January when I finally have a little bit of free time to really put energy into looking for new wheels.

oh no the dreaded auto (buying ordeal)

My current set of wheels is precariously close to losing it's transmission on one of the lovely residential streets that reside between work, home and theatre. That being said, I have begun to think about my next automobile purchase. Such thoughts make me want to vomit hence the queasy feeling I've been having all week long. At least it's not the middle of July in a vicious heat wave, that was the last time I needed a car. And it came rather unexpectedly, this time I'm much more prepared.

5 years ago my old car lost it's transmission exiting the 10 Freeway, literally steps from my then mechanic. What timing!!! After renting a wreck for almost 2 weeks and variously going through my first "car buying" process alone I settled for the first car that was in my price range and halfway tolerable. Plus it had air conditioning! A novelty for me, I would have bought an air-conditioned potato if it got me where I needed to be and kept me from glistening in the process. Remember, it was an especially hot July.

So now I know my car is dying a slow death, all week long I have been a good girl perusing autotrader.com and consumerreports.com so I know what to look for and when to say "No, I won't pay that much for a car that is worth $3000 less than what you're asking."

My problem lies in the fact that the car I have my sights set on (2002 or 2003 Mazda Protege5) had low production so there's not many around to choose from. Granted I could get a bright RED, bright YELLOW or boring WHITE auto very easily but that coveted SILVER baby is extremely difficult to come by. My recently decided second choice is a 2003 VW New Beetle, although I haven't driven one yet so it's not set in stone, is a bit more attainable in a decent color and price range but I'm not sure if I'm a Beetle girl. Anyone have thoughts on the subject that knows my personality??? Third choice is a combination of various cars and whatever else I see/drive this weekend that is in said price range.

I know all of you are so jealous of the fun times that I'm about to embark on this weekend. Please keep me in your thoughts.

living with Los Muertos

I'm currently working on this bear of a show called Los Muertos. And by bear of a show I don't mean that in a bad way. It's a good show. Definitely one of the better ones I've done. Extremely talented writer in Tim McNeil whose body of work is vast with most themes hitting to the heart. This show can be difficult to watch, it has the potential to unearth tears in normally guarded people. And without fail, every night at a particular point in the show I get a knot in my stomach as I watch the audience and actors ride a rollercoaster of emotions.

Working in theatre, you're never really validated...until the LA Times likes you.
