too much good stuff

I've been slacking in the posting department however the DSL should be hooked up in my apartment any second now so hopefully things will change for the better around here.

I've been meaning to write this all week so here it goes, in a somewhat quick fashion.

Kick off Latino Heritage Month with a very kid friendly celebration at the LA Zoo.

Greek Fest at St. Sophia's. One of my top favorite summer time activities in L.A. next to the Tofu Festival. Not so much kid friendly towards the later part of the day.

NFL on Sunday. Bloody Mary Breakfast. Hipster kid friendly. Need I say more?

Water & Power

Water & Power, written single-handedly by one third of the premier Latino/Chicano comedy group Culture Clash (Richard Montoya to be exact) is an examination of the growing Latino political power in the city and the struggles that accompany such authority.

I was first introduced to Culture Clash in 2003 with their show Chavez Ravine. It was thoroughly entertaining and taught this mini-Angeleno-historian a thing or 2 about L.A.’s storied past. I vowed then and there to see everything they produced henceforth. If I believe in a product then I will support it through and through and Culture Clash is no exception.

Water & Power, although a dramatic piece and completely different from anything else they’ve produced, still has the classic CC stamp on it as Richard’s writing has a very distinct style. Seeing it for the second time last night, and already knowing the story, I was able to observe more and hear things I missed the first time around. I’ll refrain from a synopsis because a google search can provide numerous ones to choose from. Instead, I’ll say that Water & Power is a great step forward in spreading the fabulousness that is Richard Montoya, Herbert Siguenza and Ric Salinas.

the w(hole) perspective

It's kinda like when Roadrunner goes through a wall and all that is left behind is the outlined image of his body....like this...

...except on Friday night, near the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Lillian Way, the image is of a Ford truck....like this...

From the outside of the building you can see where the truck hit (X marks the spot)....

What you are viewing is the aftermath of what we believe to be a Ford truck that plowed into one of our theatre spaces on Friday night/Saturday morning between 2:30am and 4am. But that's not the end of the story...we were also robbed of some sound equipment and chop saws. Good times in Hollywierd, huh?!?!?

Thankfully no one was in the space rehearsing and/or working; the next show is scheduled to load in on Thursday and the previous show closed last weekend so the space was empty.

With that, if you happen to have any chop saws you'd be willing to part with please let me know...I know of a non-profit theatre company in dire need.
