walk talk

This weekend I decided to do some driving exploring of the potential route for the walk that I’m planning on February 10th and as it turns out I am considering altering it a teeny bit. One major change will be the starting point...we will now convene at the NE corner of Wilshire & Western….that would be both bus and train friendly in as far as transpo is concerned. The next minor alteration will be the actual walking route, we will still end up in Downtown however I’m considering scrapping Rampart and traversing an as yet unspecified east/west street, looking into 9th as a possibility. 4th Street is another option and if I go with that route then we will include Rampart.

I will be exploring again this Saturday and report back early next week with a more definite game plan. Either way, the walk will be between 3 and 5 miles (depending on the route) which in my mind is very manageable for most able bodied creatures. Starting time is still noon.

Also there may be a slight kink in the plans for drinks at the Figueroa Hotel as the damn Grammys happen on the same day, just across the street. That’s OK though, we will be on foot so if our drinking destination needs to change we will do it on the fly!

I hope those that have RSVP'd so far aren't too bummed at the change of plans, and if you are then plan your own damn walk!

one of these things is not like the other...

Park & JMWB Walk

Last year, on the 2nd Sunday of February, I walked 6th Street from San Vicente into Downtown with 4 like minded friends. It was easily the most beautiful day of the year as it had been raining for 2 days straight, all the way up until about an hour before my scheduled walk. Then the clouds dispersed and and birds chirped and all was good.

This year on Sunday February 10th I will be doing another walk. The route is somewhat set although I have yet to drive it so there may be a few tweaks but essentially we will be starting at Echo Park Lake, then backtracking a bit along possibly Temple to Rampart, walking down Rampart to Wilshire and into MacArthur Park, then finding our way via some street to 8th and taking that all the way into Downtown the NE corner of Wilshire & Western and ending at the Hotel Figueroa for a beverage at the poolside patio. Total distance should be just under 5 over 3 miles and the start time will most likely be noon.

The starting and ending points are conveniently located along bus routes so transportation to and from shouldn't be too difficult...although plotting your course on the MTA website will be slightly challenging.

Neon Boy and The Gentrifier should definitely be in attendance and obviously all are welcome to join us. Either leave a comment or email me individually to let me know if you plan on coming so I can keep you posted on the details as the date draws nearer.

Sadly I have no catchy name for this walk so for now we'll dub it the Park & JMWB Walk...Echo Park Lake, MacArthur Park, South Park...

It was "Wear Your Jersey to Work" day today. My beloved team is out of the playoffs but one Dallas fan in particular, who just received a nifty gifty for the holidays, is a little nervous about the game this weekend...hence the theme.

marketing the walks

Downtown Los Angeles has it all these days. A plethora of Farmers Markets, a Flea Market, an actual supermarket, a skid row walk, a dog walk, an art walk and now a comedy walk (which by the way, begins tomorrow night).

Whew! Add a hell of a lot of places to eat, drink and be merry and you’ve got yourself a real live city.

The above image is one of many I've taken of the ongoing construction at the homestead, post fire aftermath. One that looks to be a very slow moving process. A recent morning, when the workers were around, I peeked into the 2 apartments that were damaged a bit more than mine and they both look the same as they did on the day of the fire but without a kitchen or bathroom...
