Living in perpetually sunny Southern California, I find it humorous when they get excited about the rare 80 degree April weather and truly feel their pain when rain and thunderstorms muck up weekend plans.
This is one weekend where I wish I were back there, the Cultural Tourism Department is offering a buttload of free walking and biking tours all over the city.
The Crapitals still suck (I only say that because I'm still bitter from my time spent with them in the 80's), people continue to complain about the Metro (but they really have no idea how good they have it) and the beltway is everyone's nemesis. So not much has changed over the years, but I do wax nostalgic every once in a while and maintain the statement that if I ever move away from L.A. I'd most likely end up back from whence I came.

Call me silly but I didn't think I'd miss DC when I moved away last September. And maybe the nostalgia can be chalked up to being in a new town relatively alone but I've found myself recalling the DC Metro area (or DMV as they're now calling it) with much more fondness than I ever did when I lived out there. Like you, if I do end up leaving L.A. I'll head back there. Can't imagine going anywhere else.

give it a good 2 years out here and you will be hard pressed to want to leave.
DMV...clever!

DC's public transit system is glorious. They have people who help you, actual people. When there is a major event they have systems in place to make everything run more smoothly.
It shocks me that the city that was at one time the murder capital of the world has one of the best public transit systems ever.
I'm so jealous, I almost want to move there, but then I would live in DC or Virginia or Maryland and I'd have to kill myself, because LA is the best city in the world, we just have crappy public transit.

BusBench - agreed on the DC metro. when i was there a few weeks ago i never had to wait more than 6 minutes for a train AND they have these great screens that tell you when trains are coming and they are accurate!!
yesterday i waited for 15 minutes for a bus on hollywood blvd...

I can attest to the metro in DC being pretty good. I never had to deal with it on rush hour traffic but always used it for major event days, like the breast cancer walk. With literally thousands of people crowding the tunnels to enter and exit DC, I don't think I ever had to wait longer than ten minutes to get on a train. I think that says a lot.
